We are hosting our first summer band camp from May 30th to June 8th on weekdays. The camp is open to current 5th grade students that want to get ahead or just want to try out band and see if it's for them. At the camp students can "test drive" an instrument of their choice to see what band has to offer. All students will receive small group instruction with like-instruments as well as full ensemble rehearsal with Mr. Ostrow and a beginning band. Band News
Boca Grande Jazz Band Parade
Volunteer members of the jazz band marched at the front of the Boca Grande Women's Club Parade on Saturday March 17th. The students performed "Land of 1000 Dances" with to through the downtown area of the island to the festival grounds at the island school. At the festival location, the students picked up their jazz band instruments and performed for an appreciative audience.
Advanced Band Music Performance Assessment
On Friday, March 23rd the Advanced Band performed three prepared pieces for the annual Music Performance assessment sponsored by the Florida Bandmaster's Association. for their performance three judges adjudicated their performance of Prestissimo by Karl King arranged by Swearingen, Air for Winds by Shelton, and Overture for Winds by Charles Carter. Each judge awarded the students a "superior" rating, which is the highest rating achievable with FBA. After the stage performance, the students were also judged backstage for their sightreading skills. They also earned a superior rating in reading a march and an overture. Congratulations to all Advanced Band members. Medals will be awarded at the Band Awards Banquet in May.

Thursday, April 26th - Band Booster Meeting in the band room beginning at 6:00pm. Topics include the upcoming Spring Concert and Awards Banquet. We will also be electing officers for the 2012-13 school year. Thursday, May 3rd - LAAMS Spring Concert at LBHS beginning at 7pm. Invite your family and friends! See the student checklist for beginning band members or for intermediate/advanced band members. The program is on the right ---> Friday, May 18th- Band Awards Banquet.
